The New York Times and Verizon believe it’s critical that all students have access to quality independent journalism. They have come together to provide all VIL students and teachers access to curated educational content from The Learning Network, a resource that helps people teach and learn with the articles, photos, videos, illustrations, graphs and podcasts in The Times.
School should be engaging, relevant and meaningful for students. One of our primary missions at The Learning Network is to help teachers bring current events and issues into the classroom to help students see why and how they matter in their own real lives.
The Times is much more than just written articles, and we take full advantage of the paper’s growing multimedia offerings, from images to video to graphics to podcasts.
Chances for students to engage with current events critically and creatively are woven into everything we do on The Learning Network. Via our daily writing prompts and our monthly contests, we encourage students to express their opinions and practice their creative writing.
